THISISNON was founded by Ania Dobek and Agata Macios. The clothes are produced entirely in Poland, with full respect for human and labour rights.
Tell us some important facts about your label & background as fashion designers – what has been the basic concept for THISISNON?
We have a loyal base of eco-advocate customers with an affinity for sustainable, premium brands and timeless design. The idea for THISISNON originates from our personal needs: we were curious to see minimalistic, beautifully crafted clothes on the market, so we decided to dedicate our craftsmanship to clothing. THISISNON follows a design dictum of spatial design and construction, transferring our knowledge from architecture and combining it with the need for a sustainable development according to human needs. All this merges into the design of our collections.
How would you describe the development of your collection?
It is a concept of wearing timeless, perfectly tailored, simple clothing that lasts for years. We seek the true, primal nature of things without thinking of what should and should not be done.We always start with fabric. Fabrics are very important for us, this is what gives us inspiration. We always use natural, high quality materials 100% silk, 100% merino wool. We accept no compromises when it comes to quality. Our fabrics come from traditional Polish manufacturers.
THISISNON – what does this affirmation refers to in it’s negation?
THISISINON is not a fashion brand. It’s a design concept that wants to create clothes people would love so much that they want to wear them for years, saving planets energy and resources. When we started thinking about a name of our brand, we were looking for something clear, simple and symmetrical. We thought NON would be perfect for us. As we couldn’t use this term in its short form, we add “thesis”. There is really no big story behind it.
Why does clothing matter?
We believe that the clothes have ceased to be a purely personal matter. With buying clothes you make a serious decision. Our belief is that we can help people understanding that the effort of high quality clothing is an investment that has a profit of its own and that real primal beauty emerges from simplicity.
We would like to know three things that are timeless lovesome for you – anything that appeals to you thinking about this matter.
When it comes to music – it’s Eric Satie, Mark Rothko in painting and as an artist, we adore Pina Bausch.
— THANK YOU VERY MUCH for sharing your thoughts with Lovesome.
