RCFL – Radical Call for Love

Radical times call for your inner beauty — one may call it courage. As new radicals are dancing with our fears, it’s time to dress up and cross borders. But how to engage with the world without becoming morally heavy-handed or missing out on color? Ignoring old conceptual boundaries – notably between modern cuts, codes, and techniques on the one hand, and pre-modern fabrics, savoir-faire and couture on the other, we found the real hot chic: pleased to meet you Marine Serre. Cultivating a label that stands for an immoderate engagement with everyday life and its hybridity, Marine Serre is genre-defying as well as genre-defining — a comfortable but profoundly future-oriented new mode in the broadest sense of the word.

Radical Call for Love (2017/18) is the label’s second collection and a result affected by the attacks in Paris and Brussels. Marine Serre decided to work the experience into fashion: a composition that crashes an everyday sportswear cut and aesthetics onto 19th century Arabic luxurious garments, resulting in decidedly future-oriented fashion. Elevating a free interplay between a range of traditional elements and the contemporary that is already found in actual contemporary daily life. The collection was hosted by the Parisian concept store The Broken Arm during Paris Fashion Week last September and onward.

So, who’s that girl and what’s love got to do with it?!
Grewing up, Marine was putting her energies into playing sports like tennis rather than fashion. Entering her lycée as most exorbitantly dressed as possible, she left all sporty and countryside exuberance in the cold. From the start she showed great ambition for ever further cultivating and combining her experimental, rebellious, radical desires with a precise, technical admiration for couture. Her perfectionist attention for finishing, tailoring and detail made her chose Margiela, McQueen, and Raf Simons as her heroes, lucky enough to learn from all of them, directly or indirectly, over a series of internships from 2013 to 2015.

The collection Radical Call for Love was selected for Festival d’Hyères at Villa Noailles. Being nominated for three of the most prestigious awards in fashion business in one year the young label won the LVMH Prize in March 2017. Addressing the serious and toy with your sense of direction. Clearly, don’t miss out on this kind of fashion, a new mode in the broadest sense!

Marine Serre is available from September 2017 onward in Dover Street Market, Opening Ceremony, Nordstrom SPACE and SSENSE among many other places. Her next collection stands planned for January 2018.
